So the other day I was driving to my friend’s house in South Gilbert.  Well, she was a client.  She relocated to Gilbert from the Seattle area just about this time last year.  Now she’s a good friend (with a fantastic house!! seriously I’m green every time I go over there) and we hang out frequently.  Last weekend it was pedicures and Mexican food.  BUT I DIGRESS…

I had just enjoyed a lovely shopping trip to the new Gilbert mall, taking in a boutique-like Dillards, Ann Taylor Loft, White House Black Market, and my guilty pleasure Torrid.

I was then driving south on Greenfield Road.  The area quickly changed from urban pleasures to “rural feeling” South Gilbert.  The majority of homes are on large plots of land, speaking in acres instead of feet.  As we drove I pointed out cows, chickens and other animals to my kids.

Just ahead I noticed a police car pulled to the side of the road with lights going.  I slowed down.  And then had to laugh.

Apparently some young cows had gotten loose and were hanging out on the side of the road, snacking on vegetation.  A very young (and good looking) cop was trying to make sure they didn’t go into the two lane road.

From the easily read expression on his face, you could tell exactly what he was thinking.  “What in the world am I supposed to do now?  I know I’m the newbie, but seriously?!  Cattle duty?!”

My kids thought it was amazing.  I thought it was hysterical.  And it reminded me that I absolutely love living in the Phoenix area with urban amenities and rural distractions.
